WHO WE ARE
WE GREW UP IN THE YARD.
Walt Steelyard Senior bought a forty-foot lot in the Strip District in 1981 with a pickup truck, a welding rig, and a habit of finishing what he started. He fixed cracked foundations for the row-houses on Penn Avenue. He poured pads for
the meat-packing plants on Smallman. Word got around.
By the time his son Walt Jr. took over the yard in 2003, the lot had grown to two acres and the work had moved up — full commercial GCs, industrial retrofits, the kind of heavy-spec jobs other builders called impossible. That's still what we do. Same yard. Same name on the gate. Same rule: don't hand back a job you wouldn't sign your name to.
Today, Walt Jr. and his daughter Marisa run the company together. Sixty-four crew. Eight machines. Three foremen who've each been here over fifteen years. We're not the cheapest GC in the valley and we're not trying to be —
we're the one your insurance company recommends after the last guy walked off.
OUR Mission & Values
Build it
Right.
We build commercial, industrial, and large-scale residential structures across the midwest. Hands-on, in-house, owner-direct.
Our mission is to deliver structures that outlast their warranty, on schedules we hit, for budgets we hold. We employ our crew full-time, sign every contract with wet ink, and answer the phone when it ring
Sign Your
Name
Every contract gets a wet-ink signature. If we won't put our name on it, we won't hand it over.
Pick Up
the Phone
Owner-direct, foreman-direct. No call centers. Somebody named on the contract is reachable.
Over-Spec by
Default
Code is the floor, not the target. Heavier framing, deeper footings, better fasteners.
Leave it
Cleaner
Site walks end with a broom in someone's hand. Neighbors should be sorry to see us go.
